Tuesday, June 5, 2012 Welcome Our New RoadAfter much delay, hesitation & some chunks of cash we have heard your pleas and cries about the road going into Guadalupe Canyon Oasis. Fear not… friends and family from all over the world have nothing but good things to say about the new “calle”. So why not give it a try? It may still not be for everyone but at least this big red bus can get up there. See you soon. Beep Beep! posted by K. Saturday, January 08, 2011 Sweat LodgeThis weekend, our crew of workers started building a new sweat lodge frame in the Canyon!
This was a labor of love, involving carefully selecting and dethorning tree limbs to serve as the lodge's half-domed frame, sighting the lodge with an east-facing door, building a fire pit, locating volcanic rocks to serve as the sweat lodge's heat source, and putting together the frame itself. The next step will be to cover the frame. During a sweat, the volcanic rocks will be heated in the fire pit, then once hot are transferred into the sweat lodge and used to vaporize water and warm the lodge. Thanks to our tireless volunteers who helped us build and purify the lodge! posted by B. Monday, December 06, 2010 Palapa Maintenance and New BookshelfIn preparation for what's shaping up to be a busy holiday season, work is being done to spruce up the campsites and groom the palm trees. La Godorniz Tub is getting a new palapa roof of freshly cut palm leaves. This weekend also saw the inauguration of the first Canyon library! A bookshelf was carved out of an old palm stump and filled with some light reading for guests to enjoy. We plan to add more books and shelves to the library as time goes on and to encourage trading by guests: Take a book, and leave a new one in its place. Book now for the holiday season because tubs are filling up fast. New Years in the Canyon is a wonderful treat. Fill out a Tub Request and we'll get you going. See you soon in the Canyon. posted by B. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 Season Opening this September 1st!It's time to get back into the swing of things here at Guadalupe Canyon Oasis! The Canyon will be officially reopening for business this September 1st. That's just a few short weeks away! So grab your towels and camping gear, submit a quick Tub Request, and drive on down here... We'll be waiting! posted by B. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 Closing for the Summer!
Tuesday, May 11, 2010 New Online Bookings DiscountDear Canyon-lovers, We have just decided to start offering, for a short time, a 10% discount on online bookings! The goal of this discount is to encourage you to familiarize yourself with our relatively new online booking system. For years, coming to the Canyon has been a much less structured event, where guests would just show up and hope that their favorite tub was free. But times change and with the number of visits to the Canyon increasing, we're hoping that this new system will ensure that everyone can book their tubs well in advance and be sure to have their spot reserved for them when they arrive in the Canyon. So if you're thinking about visiting us this May or early June (before we close down for the summer), please do consider booking early and online to receive your discount! On an unrelated note, you may notice that our website's banner images at the top of the page have changed. These new photos come courtesy of our friend Joshua Merrill, who has kindly given us permission to use his work. Please do visit his Flickr photo page to see more of his beautiful pictures! posted by B. Saturday, April 10, 2010 Earthquake updateThanks for all your calls and emails about our well-being following the recent earthquake that rocked us this week! We are doing just fine. No one was hurt or injured and the canyon is intact. Our springs bubble on! We hope to see you in the canyon soon. Reservations are flowing in for the next few weeks, so book now to make sure you get your favorite tub! posted by B. Tuesday, December 8, 2009 Palapa time!Volunteers set out last weekend to put up a new thatch of palm leaves. Some wire, pliers, truck load of palm leaves and the palapa's ready to roll. After a full day's work the new roof is up! posted by K. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 Totem carvings and moreLast weekend saw us cleaning up the canyon's surroundings and thinking up creative ideas on how to fix up one of the trucks that had been burned during the fire. After a few hours brainstorming we thought we'd give it a fresh layer of paint and turn it into something original and rather unique. We added a totem pole/stump whose features Jack brought into better relief after a few hours of chiseling. And voila! The finished product: And when you come by, don't forget to sign your name and where you're from on the truck's hood! posted by K. Sunday, November 15, 2009 Mud Baths UpdateWork is progressing on our new mud baths. This week, Ernesto, his son Adan and a crew of helpers added a beautiful tiled area for getting in and out of the tubs, as well as benches for relaxing and socializing with your friends. This project has been a long-time dream of Ernesto, so it's great to see it finally achieved. We hope you will like the mud baths, too! Check out the picture below: We also wanted to show you some pictures of the new Eco-Camping area. It's a beautiful, shady area under the palm trees where you can pitch your tent for just 15$ per night and have access to Eco-Camping tub, the public pool, a grill, as well as our new mud baths! We're gearing up for a great Thanksgiving weekend. Make sure you book now to reserve your tub! Labels: eco-camping, mud baths, news, pictures posted by Snap! Tuesday, November 3, 2009 Mud Baths! Our latest project has been excavating two mud baths under the palm trees. They're still in very primitive shape, but we've already tried them out... And they feel great! One's hot and the other's cold, even though they're right next to each other. Isn't Mother Nature awesome? Labels: mud baths, news, services posted by Snap!
